Happen when other areas of the brain shrink, suggesting brain deterioration with schizophrenia: associated with thought disturbances. Decreases in temporal lobe: neurotransmitter differences. Serotonin: genetic influences, being the offspring of someone with schizophrenia increases the likelihood of having it, siblings have a 1 in 10 changes, 10x higher than average person, twin studies.
