Anxiety disorders: can think of as our self-protective, risk-reduction, instincts in overdrive, generalized anxiety disorder (gad), excessive and continuous worry, anxiety, and apprehensive expectation in multiple situations, panic disorder, repeated and sudden panic attacks, phobias. Intense, irrational desire to avoid a specific object or situation: obsessive compulsive disorder (ocd) Inattention: wanders off task, difficulty sustaining focus, disorganized (not due to defiance or misunderstanding: hyperactivity: moving constantly including in situations when not appropriate (excessively fidgeting, talking; in adults can be extreme restlessness) Impulsivity: makes hasty actions that occur in the moment without first thinking about them- may be socially intrusive or excessively interrupting: 11% of 4-17 year olds, 2. 5% of adults, 3x more diagnosed in boys than girls. Impairments in motor abilities, imitation, symbolic play and responses to emotion: may appear after period of fairly typical development followed by regression, lifelong disorder even though symptoms and severity may change.
