Document Summary

Experimental support: self-report of stressors, those most likely to get sick are those who are reporting more stressors and greater. Infected of participants with cold virus! impacts of life points. If you don"t get the cold virus, there is no difference in who gets sick. But after you get the virus there is more likelihood: results were consistent with general adaption system- people under chronic stress eventually deplete bodily resources and become vulnerable to microbial infections. Stress lowers function of immune system to have an effective response to the presence of microbes, thereby leading to lowered immunity to infection and resulting illness. Most common stressors are daily hassles- although minor, daily hassles can become chronic and repetitive. Too much to do all the time, crowds while shopping, getting stuck in traffic, misplacing things, waiting in lines, unpleasant boss at work, worrying over money. Chronicly irritating, but they don"t evoke the same general adaption syndrome evoked by some major life events.
