Considerable breadth of product but less than mass merchants. Offer softlines: apparel and accessories for men, women, and children, plus linens, home furnishings and gifts. Full-line department stores also offer hardlines, such as furnitures. Came into being in the late 1800s. They offered many different types of merchandise under one roof. Specialty department stores aka first tier department stores.
