Document Summary

Colonial forms of protest: pamphlets, boycotts, mob action and committees of correspondence. Pamphlets- common sense is a pamphlet that was written by thomas paine in. 1775 76 that acted as form of colonial protest. It inspired people in the colonies to declare and fight for independence from. Great britain in the summer of 1776: the pamphlet explained the advantages of and the crucial necessity for immediate colonial independence. In common sense, paine argued for the superiority of a republic over a monarchy. This acted as a form of inspiration and motivation for the colonists to seek and pursue independence. Boycotts- as britain was desperately attempting to tighten their control on the colonies, the colonists rebelled: the colonists were boycotting goods and rebelling against the troops that were stationed in the colonies. The main port cities of boston and new york were the first to plan out and put forward this idea.
