According to michael walzer, justice must be viewed in relation to its social meanings. In the case of a lying friend, arguing from a communitarian perspective becomes difficulty because there is an overlap of obligations: obligations of loyalty to an institution and obligations of loyalty to a friend. In this situation, i believe that an individual owes loyalty to the friend provided that the cheating is not violating the universal moral claim of respect for persons and universal duties. Furthermore, it is not an individual"s duty to report lying especially if you have an advantage in having attained that information. For example, if a roommate is cheating, you as an individual have an upperhand in that you share your life with this person and are able to learn a lot more about him than an average person.
