Document Summary

Initial purpose is predictive validity: predicting academic success. Intelligence tests were initially developed to predict how well persons would do in school (e. g. , alfred binet and. Theodore simon"s work with the french government in 1904) The binet-simon test was revised and translated by lewis terman of stanford university in. 1916 and became known as the stanford-binet in the united states. Iq = mental age/chronological age x 100. More recently, wechsler developed the most widely used iq test today. There are three forms: preschoolers, school-age children, and adults. All these tests contain verbal (e. g. , vocabulary, general knowledge, verbal reasoning, short term memory) and performance scales (psychomotor abilities, nonverbal reasoning, ability to learn new relationships) and full-scale iq. Iq should not be confused with intelligence. Iq is a score on a test that may predict academic success. Many aruge intelligence also involves adaptability to the environment, ability to generate new ideas, and ability to process information efficiently.
