ANTH 233 Lecture Notes - Lecture 13: Gray Langur, Weaning, Reciprocal Altruism
Document Summary
Socialization: process by which an individual becomes integrated into it"s group. Infant meets individuals gradually, mother siblings father mother"s relatively peers other group members. Over time interacts with all on their own. Independence process is gradual to best learn to suppor itself. Motor development: young animals acquire and perfect motor skills, different behaviors require different levels and sequences of motor skills. Apparent but not absolute, males tend to be more precocious and females more play-motherings but see these behaviors in both sexes. Could be due to hormones influence on the brain, morphology, physiology, and behavior, reinforced by other"s behavior. Longest of all mammals relative to body size, weaning to sexual maturity. May be long due to phylogeny, brain developemnts, risky environment. See species-specific behaviors in increasingly appropriate contexts. Bascially interacts and spends time with non relations more as get older. Depends on and recieves support from close relatives, can survive if mom dies but vulnerable, capable but not fully.
