Energy is the capacity to do work and cause change: kinetic energy: motion (transferring motions to other matter) Thermal energy: random movement of atoms --> bonds break. Thermodynamics: energy transformations within matter are studied: 1st law: energy in the universe is constant cannot be created or destroyed, 2nd: energy conversions increase the disorder of the, potential energy: stationary/position universe entropy. Chemical energy: energy available release in a chemical reaction. Molecule is taken apart by covalent bonds and energy is released allowing it to power other reactions in the body. All these endergonic and exergonic chemical reactions combined are called metabolism: metabolic pathway: series of chemical reactions that either break down a complex molecule or build up a complex molecule.
