Absolutism: ruler has absolute power that extends two ways. Ruler controls law, justice, and administration of courts. Ruler controls all armed forces: no church, duke, etc, louis xiv. Very expensive and rare since the whole room and palace are to show grandeur of himself and his kingdom. Symbolized his aristocratic nature and that he doesn"t have to work. Very few aristocrats have grandeur: europe is mostly peasants who break their backs to allow the kings to have the wealth and power that they have. Wanted france to control all of europe. Spain, portugal, and ottoman turks are on the decline. Prussia on the rise: basis for future germany, militaristic from the start. Very large, trained, efficient army: never left the center of the prussian state so germany becomes militaristic and in many ways is the source of conflict in 20th century wars.
