Impression formation is the process of making judgements about a person based on observable cues. Some examples of nonverbal observable cues are a person"s race, gender and sexual orientation. Impression management is the act of presenting a favorable image of oneself so that others will form positive judgements. Social influences on impression management: race and ethnicity, and social status. Performance team: individuals who intimately cooperate in staging a performance that leads an audience to form an impression of one, or of all the team members. Examples- married couples, organizations, a restaurant kitchen staff. Dramaturgy: analyzing social interaction as a series of theatrical performances. Front stage: area of social interaction where people perform and work to maintain an appropriate impression. Back stage: area of social interaction away from an audience where people can rehearse their behavior and violate their impression management performances.
