Sex: the biological traits of maleness and femaleness. Examples- women: wider hips, ovaries, lactating breasts, uterus, estrogen, vagina/clitoris. The colors pink and blue, introduced in the mid-19th century did not signify gender. These two colors became gender signifiers in the early 20th century. Sexism: system of beliefs that assert the inferiority of one sex and that justify discrimination based on gender: sexism at a personal level refers to the attitudes and behaviors communicated in everyday interactions. Patriarchies: male dominated societies: men have more privileges and power over women, patriarchies exist in every quadrant of the globe. Matriarchies: societies that give preference to women: matriarchies are rare in the world.
