Language development: after a few months of being born, children gaze into the eye"s of caregivers and are sensitive to the emotional tone of the voices around them. At about 6 months, children begin to babble. At about 11 months old many babies understand 50 or more common words. Phonological development: in this stage children play with their sounds just as much as they do with their fingers and toes. Semantic development: young children"s vocabularies are more likely to contain a mixture of words that refer to objects, to reflect their daily lives. They are just beginning to learn the meanings of words. e. g. bus; cup; snack; milk; juice. Morphology & syntax development: children begin to formulate two word combinations around two years old, depending on the language spoken and cultural background of the child"s family, grammatical elements to sentence are learned during toddler ages. Communication competence: the ability to use language appropriately in a multiplicity of social situations.
