Salvation was in the hands of god: started a movement, started a new church. Took luther"s base idea and took it further: if god can determine ones salvation, he can determine everything: predestination. Predetermined if one goes to heaven or hell, humans do not have free will: stripped down version of religion, more than luther, no need for church, bishops etc: it corrupts the relationship with god. King henry viii (1491-1547): having trouble having a son, needed a male are. Unsavory gure: wanted to divorce catherine, wasn"t allowed by the pope and church, creates the church of england, makes himself the head in order to divorce. Inspired by what was happening in europe in terms of religion: england has always been catholic, then they became protestant and led to wars of religion. Changed the theology but not the aesthetic in the church of england.
