PHIL 1062 Lecture 3: Camus and Bird Man
Document Summary
2 goals of life: don"t kill yourself, develop scorn. There is but one truly serious philosophical problem [] suicide . Thought of suicide is surprising because we get into the habit of living before acquiring the habit of thinking . Before experiencing absurdity life is directed at aims/goals so you are acting as if you were free this ofc never works because something always goes wrong. Example: seeing a person talking on a phone behind glass (in a phone booth) To that person, this is perfectly fine but to you this seems a meaningless pantomime (the person is invested in what he is doing, for you it means nothing) Example: perception of inhuman nature the world is dense" behind our illusion of it : the world is not what you thought it was, nature doesn"t give a f about you and bad things can happen.
