PHYL 141 Lecture Notes - Lecture 13: Headache, Collagen, Scapula
Document Summary
Spinal cord pathway for sensory input to the brain & motor output from the brain. Spinal cord located within vertebral canal of vertebral column: vertebral canal = vertebral foramina of all vertebrae stacked atop each other, surrounding vertebrae form sturdy shelter for enclosed spinal cord. Continuous with epineurium outer covering of spinal & cranial nerves. Subdural space space between dura mater & arachnoid mater, contains interstitial fluid (2) arachnoid mater middle of meningeal membranes (deep to dura mater); thin, avascular covering comprised of cells & thin loosely arranged collagen/elastic fibers. Named for spider web-like arrangement of collagen & elastic fibers. Continuous with arachnoid mater of brain through foramen magnum. Subarachnoid space space between arachnoid mater & pia mater, contains cerebrospinal fluid (3) pia mater inner most meninge; thin transparent connective tissue layer that adheres to surface of spinal cord & brain. Helps bring in nutrients to the spinal cord.
