Document Summary

Jean piaget- his idea was that kids are active thinkers trying to figure out the world. Convinced that development of child would lead to answers about development of knowledge. He viewed kids as little scientists who developed schemas. Assimilation is expanding range of things you respond to. Baby goes from sucking breast to sucking on bottle. Baby forms mouth differently depending on what he sucks on. Piaget argued that these mechanisms drove child to different stages. He asked kids to solve problems: sensorimotor stage- here the child is purely a physical creature, no understanding of external world, past, future, no differentiation. Through this stage kid acquires object permanence- things exist when you no longer see them. Before six months, you take a rattle from a kid and hide it, they think its gone. Surprised by peek a boo. also discover older kids fail at a not b task.
