Chapter 4 Assignment
Carbohydrates in Foods (28 points)
Due 5/29 at 11:55 pm
Go to the grocery store to find the nutrition facts label for each item. OR you can most likely find the
nutrition facts label for each item on the food manufacturer’s website or through the USDA’s Nutrient
Database (https://ndb.nal.usda.gov/). Fill out the tables and answer the questions completely.

1. What major differences did you discover between these two cereals? (2 points)
I noticed that Cocoa Puffs, while being about half the serving size of Raisin Bran, still has
almost as much (if not more) Kcal, carbs, and fat. While comparing the same serving sizes,
Raisin Bran also has almost double the amount of fiber and protein.
2. Which cereal would be a healthier source of carbohydrates? Why? (2 points)
Although Raisin Bran has .40g more carbohydrates (when compared with the same amount
of grams and not the same serving size), I feel that they would be a healthier source because
the carbohydrates are really the only category of nutrition that is high; rather than the Cocoa
Puffs, who have high carbs and fat.
Pick a third cereal that would be a healthy option you would consider eating and provide the
requested nutrition information for that cereal on the table above (1 point).

1. What major differences did you discover between these two forms of potatoes? (2 points)
The French fries had almost double the amount of Kcals, ten times as much fat (!!!!!), and more carbs
than the baked potato. The baked potato had a lot more protein and fiber than the French fries did.
