Ethnic or primitive art: art by intention, art by appropriation. The goal of an anthropological approach to the study of religion. Not to pass judgment, but to show how religion reflect a society"s cultural superstructure , ideology and worldview. Ideas and practices that postulate reality beyond that which is immediately available to the senses (bowen 2008) A belief in spirits and/ or gods. What are the positive effects of religion/ spirituality: reduced anxiety by answering existential questions, provides moral sanctions for behavior, common ideology and social. Animism; belief that nature is animated by spirit beings. Animatism; belief that nature is energized by impersonal supernatural force or energy. Priests and priestesses; full time religious specialists whose power is given by society and the religious institution (priest, minister, imam, rabbi, lama)
