Coronal - vertical plane that divides into anterior and posterior parts. Sagittal - vertical plane that divides into left and right parts. Transverse - horizontal plane divides into superior & inferior parts. Terms of relationships (axial skeleton - head to trunk of skeleton) Superior/cranial - towards the top most part of the body. Inferior/caudal (tail) - moving towards bottom of the body. Proximal - towards the point of attachment/origin. Distal - farther away from point of attachment. Superficial - towards the surface of the skin. Plantar region - bottom of the foot. Flexion - decrease angle of joint from anatomical position. Abduction - take away, adduction - back to anatomical position. Rotation - lateral or medial (shaking your head) Pronation - palms down without moving elbows. Reposition - thumbs in ap, opposition - thumbs inside palm. Elevation - mandible in ap, depression - jaw down, mouth open. Protraction - sliding forward (shoulder blades, jaw), retraction - backward.
