In 1997, an agreement known as the kyoto protocol was adopted; it is an amendment to a united nations (un) treaty on global warming. Called for scheduled reductions in co2 emissions by the industrialized countries in north america, europe, east asia, and oceania. 183 countries had signed the agreement by 2009 (canada withdrew in 2011). Since the kyoto protocol was signed, global temperatures have continued to rise, with. Water is emerging as the major resource issue of the 21st century, but water, energy, and food (and other agricultural products) as resources are intimately linked. When water becomes a commodity rather than a free good, as it was before modern times, water prices can increase so much that poor people"s access becomes severely reduced, which then negatively affects sanitation and health. Humans require an average of 5 to 13 gallons of clean water per day for basic domestic needs: drinking, cooking, and bathing/cleaning.
