Principle of uniformitarianism - all processes we see acting on earth today, have acted that way throughout history, small things happening over and over can make huge changes (opposite of catastrophism) Actualism says uniformitarianism is correct but overtime these processes can speed up/slow down, large sudden events can change earth much faster (ice age, meteor) Before 6 bya: no solar system, just nebula of h atoms: nebula giant cloud of space gas. Planetary accretion (4. 5 ga) atoms become molecules, molecules become dust, dust becomes rock: uniformitarianism, still happens. Theia impact first 100m years of earth, earth collides with mars sized body (theia)
