Financial markets are exchanges: nasdaq, nyse, 24 other exchanges in the united states alone, other countries have their own stock exchanges as well, some companies are traded on more than one exchange, ex: alibaba. Derivatives: give you the right to buy or sell a stock in the future. So companies are traded between investors on an exchange. The first time a business is sold to the first investor is the primary market.
