Asd: possible causes: genetics, more prevalent in boys, twin studies. Neuron anatomy: dendrites branched projections that proprogate electrochemical signals received from other neurons, axon singular elongated projection that conducts an electrical signal away from the cell body, myelin sheath. Asd: possible causes: environmental factors, exposure to environmental toxins/disease pre- and postnatally, possible toxins include lead, insecticides, pcbs, fire-retardant chemicals. More research needed: exposure to certain medications prenatally (seizure medication taken by the mother, vaccines?, no there is no correlation. Asd: social skill impairment: deficits in joint attention, shared focus by 2 people on an object, difficulty with initiating social interactions, trouble with maintaining turn-taking. Is upset by certain sounds (loud places: cries, becomes angry, or laughs without an obvious cause or at inappropriate times, temper tantrums, hitting/biting, running away. Asd: language building blocks: form (phonology, morphology, syntax) Difficulty initiating conversation: gauging knowledge of conversation partner and possible to need to provide clarification.
