By seeing this image his theory was that information flowed around this web of nerves. He compared it to water running through pipes and he believed that was how behavior was produced. Santiago ramon y cajal - by using gogi"s technique he viewed a chick embryo"s brain tissue. He concluded that the nervous system begins very simple and then becomes more complex with age. His theory was that the more neurons an animal had, the more complex his behavior was. Dendrites branching extensions that receive information. Axon delivers messages to other cells. Neurons have plasticity and make and lose connections constantly. Lost neurons cannot be replaced but they are with us for life. Damage to the brain or spinal cord means a tough recovery because of the fact lost neurons are not replaced.
