Document Summary

We can be put into perspective using counting blocks. For example, the 11 ones can be made substituted into a one block and a tens block. Since we can only have the single block in the ones place we have to move the tens to the tens column. We add the 2+7 in the tens column to get 9 which is really 90. We add the 10 we had from the ones column as well to get 100. Since we have a hundred we out a zero as a place holder in the tens column and take all 100 blocks to the hundredth place value. 1+3=4 plus the 100 from the tens column to give us 5 or 500. When first looking at 7-9 we notice that we cant take 9 from 7 so we have to see how much is need ed for 9 to become 10. Now we add 1+7 to give us 8.
