Genesis of the federal court system in article iii of the constitution. The only court that is mentioned in the constitution is scotus (supreme court) Those that serve on the supreme court are called justices. Two requirements to serve on the supreme court. Confirmed by the senate (states this in article ii section ii) All of the justices have been lawyers, 7/8 have had experience in the judicial system. Serving on the judiciary is way different than practicing law. Senate judiciary nominee hearing will be geared to their political agenda. 4 republican and 4 democratic members on the supreme court. Almost all graduated from harvard or yale ^ 3 jewish members on the court= kagan, breyer and ginsburg. A supreme court justice has never been impeached. No federal judge has ever been removed for their ideological reasons. The chief justice is a separate position; the other 8 justices are associate justices.
