ACCTG 1 Lecture Notes - Disinhibition, Circadian Rhythm, Alpha Wave
Document Summary
Measuring physiological characteristics (functioning of organ systems) to determine connections between mind and body. Assumes that differences in physiological characteristics are related to differences in personality and behaviour patterns. Statements about connections between traits and elicited physiological reactions to stimuli under specific conditions. Telemetry: same as electrodes, but without the wiring -> less constrictive. Sweat glands are directly influenced by sns: activation of system when experiencing anxiety, anger, etc. Fight or flight response causes sweat glands to fill with water. Skin conductance increases even before sweat becomes visible on palms. 2 electrodes are placed on the palm, and difference between electricity passed into skin through one, and detected at the other end by the other tells researchers how well skin is conducting. Involves heart and blood vessels: e. g. blood pressure and heart rate. Blood pressure: diastolic: resting pressure between heart contractions, systolic: max. pressure when heart contracts.
