Document Summary

Study task for chapter 3: mention seven fields of law. Law is not homogeneous body of rules, since it is divided in many fields, in which each one deals with a different area. In this division, the role of the government is central. Private law is that kind of law in which the government, as such, does not play a role, while the public law is that kind of law in which the government, as such, does play a role. Private law deals with mutual relations between citizens. Property law and contract law are two main branches, which regulate sales, ownership and mortgages. Other branches are tort law, which deals with the compensation for damage, family law, which determines marriage and adoption, and the private international law, which determines what kind of law is applicable when different jurisdictions are involved. In public law the government, as such, plays a central role.
