Document Summary

Jones-evans" definition of the technical entrepreneur: the founder and current owner-manager of a technology-based business, i. e. primarily responsible for its planning and establishment, and currently having some management control within the organization. What is clear from these definitions is that technical entrepreneurs are both entrepreneurs in the traditional sense but also involved closely with technology/technical expertise, be it championing it or possessing it. Not all entrepreneurs who act as agents of technical change are necessarily technical entrepreneurs. Consequently, the study of technical entrepreneurship has been a relatively newer development, with a number of important insights being revealed in more recent years and an enhanced understanding of the place of the technical entrepreneur within the wider schema. The principal outcome of this period of analysis has been a recognition of the technical entrepreneur"s role in industrial formation and growth and in economic growth more generally.
