Document Summary

Don"t keep folks waiting out here in the cold. Sexism of the setting and time period is established (mrs. hale must do as the men say) Mrs peters is also belittled for wanting another woman present. She was small and thin and didn"t have a strong voice . Mrs hale uses physical appearances to mirror the power differences between mr and mrs. Oh, well, women are used to worrying over trifles. Male characters overlook things, ideas, and actions that they associate with women. Gender roles are clearly delineated, and the men are uninterested in womanly things (domestic tasks and possessions, such as the canning jars of fruit).
