Law of treaties is the part and parcel of the international law of coexistence. The primary rules and principles for the law of treaties are found in the vienna convention on the law of treaties (vclt), which seeks to codify existing customary practices. It is meant to be applied to all types of written treaties, however its application differs depending on the type of treaties. The treaty as a concept under international law. Treaty: international agreement governed by international law concluded by two or more international subjects with treaty-making capacity. Vclt applies to all types of written treaties concluded between states. International organizations may also be parties to treaties but the treaty will not be governed by the vclt. In some cases, a state may enter into an agreement under national law in which case it will be governed by domestic law. The legal basis of a treaty obligation is state consent.
