1930"s- clarence gamble- research began for easy to use and cheap birth control that people could use at home safely without a doctor"s help. Gamble saw birth control in moral terms & became a pillar of pa birth control. Invested in delivery of reliable birth control devices to poorer sections of the country & sponsored birth control clinics. The pill-developed in 1950s and went into chemical production in 1960-relied on by over 1/5 of all american women. Late 1950"s early 1960"s- feminist movement begins to change- gender roles changing due to. Wwii- women going into the workplace- once men come back big push for women to go back to their pedestal. Feminine mystique- exposes the unhappiness and unfulfillment of women. Leads many women to become involved in activism. Cultural and sexual revolution- changed the political landscape in the us. Push for greater access to birth control and for women"s rights.
