Document Summary

Wednesday, september 23, 2015 & friday, september 25, 2015. Newborns are asleep about 70% of the time. Their visual acuity is roughly 20/600. (cannot see things far away) They prefer sweet tastes and can recognize the smell of their mother"s milk. Rooting reflex: brush your finger over their cheek and they will turn their head towards it, to try and suck on it. Grasping reflex: put your hand in the babies palm they will have a really tight grasp over your hand. Startle reflex: they startle the baby and the baby will automatically jerk and try to grab for mom. Stepping reflex: when you hold the baby up they will essentially try to step, this means the baby is innate. The ability of a child to think advances in a fixed series of stages. Each stage is qualitatively different than the other stages and represents a different way of thinking.
