The belief that you can successfully perform a desire behavior. Self-fulfilling prophecy- expecting something to happen actually helps cause it to happen. Negative self-fulfilling prophecy: a psychological barrier whereby the expectation of failure leads to actual failure, playing to not lose vs playing to win. Confidence about one"s ability to: execute physical skills, use psychological skills, employ perceptual skills (make good decisions, be fit and highly rained, improve one"s skill (learn) Affects the setting and pursuit of challenging goals: smart goals. Affects game strategies (play to win vs play to not lose) Affects psychological momentum: momentum in one team"s favor, possible bs. Skills can only bring you so far: anxiety, break concentration, cause indecisiveness, focus on shortcomings, distracting. In small doses, maintain motivation: reality check. A person"s confidence is greater than ability: poor performance due to being unprepared or lack of effort. Less of a problem than underconfidence but can be disastrous.
