Special purpose finishes: also known as functional finishes, most do not alter appearance but improve performance, may decrease hand, drape, strength, abrasion or soil resistance, usually topical or additive in nature, wet processes and chemical finish. Stabilization/shrinkage control: shrinkage: relax tension from spinning, fabrication and finishing, relaxation: occurs during first care cycle, progressive: occurs in subsequent care cycle. Dye classes: acid (anionic, wool, silk, nylon; some rayon, acrylic and polyester, bright colors, poor wet fastness, may have poor light fastness, azoic, cotton, some polyester, bright shades, good fastness to light and water, poor crocking, water insoluble. Colorfastness: crock: rub off on fabric or materials. Natural dyestuff: fabric treatments, natural acids or oxides, improve colorfastness, mordants, react with dyestuff and fiber, colored lake fixing the color. Dye classifications: vat dyes, water insoluble, inexpensive, good fastness, dull colors, limited color range, sulfur dyes, dark colors cotton, good fastness, inexpensive, reactive dyes, good to excellent fastness, bright, pure colors.
