Properly trained psychologists are licensed to prescribe medications in louisiana, new mexico, the military, and indian health services. People suffer terribly from mental diseased, with appropriate medication their suffering is reduced and individuals can function better in society. Understanding of etiology of mental illness is exaggerated. Mishaps of living (floods, natural disasters, losses) have been diagnosed for mental illness. The fad is to dx everything as bipolar disorder, goes along with over-dx and mis-dx. Other countries aren"t as quick to resort to pills as americans are. Makes us more aware of the mistakes made in the past, not necessarily helping prevent making the same mistakes. Helps us to understand the present; the best way to understand how we are today is to follow the hx of development. History: description of events (what happened) including a chronology (dimension of time), and explication of cause and effect based on evidence. The great man theory- the man makes the times (zeitgeist)
