Document Summary
Historiography: histories are selective; one must choose a specific area/time period to focus on, historians want to avoid bias, presentism vs. historicism: a perspective taken when writing. Presentism will apply the present to writing (in relation to todays times); can come across as arrogant/smug/superior. Historicism- based on context; author places his/her self in the selected time period from that point of view without judgment: internal vs. External-places view in greater context; relates it to the bigger picture: personalistic vs. naturalistic: the great psychologist changes in a field can be observed by studying key figures in a field throughout history. Naturalistic- freud"s theory is an evolutionary product of environment: zeitgeist/ortegeist: climate of a time: i. e. charles. Darwin- given the time he lived in, it was inevitable someone would develop theory of evolution. Actions are products of preset right actions as determined by society. Indeterminism- we have complete control over out actions- free will.
