Small cat remember details better so its not a good gist. Test items consisted of old items, within-category new items and novel-category new items. Misidentifying something that you"ve never seen/hear as something you"ve seen. As category size increases, so does the rate of false alarms. Older adults had more false memories with time. Their episodic is fading memories are less detailed. 70% of time they were shown a new object they had a false alarm and said it was an old item. More experience with more objects in categories (# of objects) the better gist you will have. Memory for gist is good for lots of things. Knowing how to interact with a dog will help you with future dogs. But details are good too because if most cats are nice but yours doesn"t like to be petted a certain way, you need to remember that detail so you don"t get scratched.
