Document Summary

Negative space: space on the screen where nothing seems to be happening. Camera head moves only, not the whole camera, side to side. Only camera head moves, up and down. Try to mimic human eye movement: lenses. Rack focus: kinesics = actual movement of camera itself. Trucking, tracking, dolly all use track/vehicle to move camera. Handheld, glidecam, steadicam attach camera to operator who moves. Long pole/arm, you can follow action from a distance. Camera lenses: wide angle: spreads everything out, makes you look fat. Jiggles less noticeable; good for handheld: normal, telephoto: flattens image more, further away. Focus/depth of field: controlling viewer attention: depth of field = the area in front of the camera where everything looks sharp and in focus. There is always less depth of field in front of the point of focus than behind it. The depth of field increases as the subject gets farther from the camera.
