Document Summary

Formation of blood cells takes place w/in the red bone marrow. The process slows w/age & found in hips & ribs (we loose rbm w/age turns into yellow fat) Hemopoiesis the process responsible for generating the formed elements found in the blood. There are 7 different types of formed elements coming from the same parent cell. Parent cell that gives rise to all of the formed elements of the blood. Stem cell must differentiate before it can make the formed elements. Only found in red bone marr containing all the dna necessary to create all of the formed elements. It can create a larger number of formed elements that have a less specific function. Has less active; more specific dna needed for the formation of the lymphocytes. Hemopoietic growth factors chemicals that regulate the differentiation (change) & reproduction of various formed elements found in the blood.
