Goddess of hunting: bow, potnia theron: ruler of the beasts. Protector of the young: artemis kourotrophos: nurturer of the young. In particular, young women: virginity, weddings, childbirth. Virgin goddess: attendants are virgins, too, protective of virginity and modesty. Goddess of the moon: another moon goddess: selene. Niobe mocks leto for only having two children. Artemis and apollo attack; apollo kills all the sons and artemis spares one daughter. Reminder of her mistake; she has one less child than leto now: actaion. Wise, kind trainer of heroes; exception to the centaur drinking, partying rule. At midday, calls a halt to the hunt. Very close by, artemis and her attendants have been hunting and bathing in a stream. Artemis is enraged at this violation of her purity.
