Radicals and unions (cid:862)home farmer(cid:863)- backbone of american republic. Flooded the market with industrialization of new tools. Debt- farmers had to pay for the land and new machines. Cultural problems-urbanization caused a loss of status for framers. To city folk farming was a low status job. (redneck and other slang came from this). Farmers had paranoia and complained about big bask. with brainwashing. Union movement- an early union was knights of labor. The grange-attempt to control railroads by 1874 there were about 1. 5 mill framers who joined. National railroad strike- in 1877 after wage cuts. From east to west they began to spread and the railroad got shut own in parts. A huge labor strike w ith hundreds and hundreds of labor strikers.
