Dominion/republic/protectorate- couldn"t decide what to name themselves. Created a crisis, parliament doesn"t owe son anything, so they don"t want him in charge, he doesn"t live up to his father"s reputation. 1660- parliament restores stuart family to the throne under restrictions. 1632- lord baltimore was given the title. Proprietory colony- (prop colonies were never successful) 1649- proprietors issued an act of toleration (religious tolerance) No son or royal child, many illegitimate children. Idiot brother would inherit the throne if he didn"t have a legitimate heir. Young wife (second marriage) gave birth to a son. Rumors that the baby was born from another woman and smuggled in. Tries to come back with an army but isn"t successful. William (dutch protestant prince) and mary (eldest daughter of james ii) put on the throne with restrictions. Have to issue a bill of rights and promise that they aren"t divine right rulers and must work with parliament and that there are checks to their power.
