SO 122 Lecture Notes - Lecture 4: Moro Reflex, Primitive Reflexes, Behaviorism
Document Summary
A life-long social experience by which individuals develop human potential and learn. Personality: persons fairly consistent patterns of thinking, feeling, and acting built patterns of their culture through internalization. But from a sociological perspective, nurture matters more. Most of who and what we are as a species is learned, or social in nature. Elements of society have a naturalistic root. Human infants display various reflexes-biologically base behavior patterns that enhance survival. Moro reflex (response to a sudden loss of support by spreading arms) 6-month complete isolation caused an irreversible emotional and behavioral change. Effect on children: anna, isabelle, & genie. Success after intensive treatment was related to mental functioning and age at the rescue. It depends largely on the environment we live in. If a child"s world is surrounded by violence, the damage (including losing trust) can be profound and lasting.
