Document Summary

Hawthorne effect- when subject behave differently because they know they are being observed by someone. It must be recognized and can not be stopped. People could learn about it by observing people without their consent. It could be prevented by total immersion allowing the researcher to gain the respect of the people so they become comfortable: although going native" makes it hard to observe the people from an outside view. A researcher must put their information out to the public in order to gain trust (research techniques, knowledge). Culture shock- the stress one feels after being exposed to a culture different from their own. Anxiety, frustration, feeling like you couldn"t be yourself, food eat the food! Always negative because it refers to discomfort (stress). Going back home after experiencing culture shock can cause reverse culture shock. Romanticize- the view that cultural differences are always good. Demonize- the view that cultural differences are always bad (negative bias).
