ENG 101 Lecture Notes - Lecture 8: Thesis Statement, List Of Knot Terminology, Proofreading
Document Summary
Revision means, literally, to see again, to look at your draft from a fresh, critical perspective. Revision is the ongoing process of rethinking your draft at every level, including the topic, the argument, and the organization as well as sentence-level concerns. This is the reason our class is structured around peer reviews; often, to see how your paper could be different you need another person"s perspective. Particularly in the early stages of revision you want to force yourself to think big. Tinkering, or spending too much time and energy on single words, sentences, or even paragraphs. Before you get to the small stuff, make sure that your overall argument and organization are working. It"s easy to get overwhelmed when revising, but resist the temptation to start over completely. Most writers find it helpful to focus on just one concern during each revision. Session, dedicating multiple sessions to each draft if necessary.
