Finish elements of the soundtrack: music: film scoring. Played by real orchestra of written by composer for film. Music really important in setting mood for film, gives us certain feeling. Have matching or contrast between movement on screen and music. Music tells you to visually read the screen. Also consider lack of sound or music as important. Can make it even more powerful or suspenseful. Four dimensions of film/tv sound: *rhythm = the perceived rate and regularity of sound, (pulse, stress, pace), offering possibility for coordination and disparity between image and sound. Example: rapid way of speaking in the west wing because want to emphasize fast paces in show: *fidelity = extent to which a sound seems appropriately matched or faithful to its visual source. Example: saving private ryan: bullets whizzing past ears, waves, soldiers going in and out trying to create what it really sounded like in that world.
