CHNS 2202 Lecture 3: Chinese Volunteer Discussions
Document Summary
This week i spent my saturday morning at wang ymca. Here i tutor children in math, english, and help them complete their homework. At first i didn"t know what to expect because i had never volunteered to work with children before, but i can gladly say that i deeply enjoyed this experience. When the kids came in they were very quiet and shy. One of the children brought in a book about frederick douglass and had to find the definition of various vocab words found in the book, words such as abhorrence, oratorical, ecclesiastical, zeal, etc. Another girl was working on her math homework. At first she was quiet and didn"t ask questions but later on began to open up after i had talked to her in chinese for a while. She was a very smart and it impressed me how fast children could pick up on concepts after you explain it to them once.
