How an issue is characterized/described can influence how it"s understood. Frames in communication can have potentially strong attitudinal effects. Control (neutral)--> provide a baseline/important point of comparison. Positive: 6. 47, 6. 82, 6. 26, 6. 29, 6. 75, 7. 44. Taking some sort of action and observing its effects. Extension of natural science to the social sciences. Key components: conditions (treatment vs. control, pretest (baseline measure of outcome: )y 1: manipulation/stimuli (treatment/exposure: x, posttest (follow up measure of outcome: Was there a difference between control and treatment group?) Empty control group: no treatment at all, just take the post test. Other times a control group could be give a standard, common or alternative form of stimulus. Choose subjects that will be used for treatment and preschools that will be used for control. Random assignment is ideal to achieve equivalency across groups. Each participant has equal chance of being assigned to either group. Helps eliminate any true differences between groups by balancing them out before treatment.
